Assuming his neck problem is healed by then, Tiger Woods will play in this year’s British Open – just as he will the U.S. Open and no doubt the PGA Championship and Ryder Cup. Anyone who thought Tiger was going to miss those major events just to save his marriage was kidding themselves.

The British Open, the third Grand Slam event of the year, is July 15-18 at St. Andrews in Scotland. Tiger also has committed to the United States Open (June 17 to 20) and the AT&T National (July 1-4). Woods has won the British Open the last two times it was held at St. Andrews — in 2000 and 2005. In 2000, Tiger’s 19-under 269 remains the best score ever at St. Andrews.

Tiger hasn’t played since the Players Championship after he withdrew in the final round with a neck injury. An MRI showed he has an inflamed facet joint in his neck. According to Woods’ website, a full recovery is expected but a return date is contingent on how quickly the condition heals. It’s quite possible he doesn’t tee it up before the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach – although he usually likes to play the Memorial a few weeks before that Open. That is June 3-6 at Muirfield, and Tiger would have to commit the Friday before to get in that event. Woods is the defending champion at that tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus.

And we can’t talk Tiger without talking about one of his mistresses. And the reported first mistress, Rachel Uchitel, has signed an agreement to appear in the Playboy magazine. Uchitel originally declined the offer to pose naked but is hoping the photo shoot will give her television career a kick start. Uchitel, who also slept with married actor David Boreanaz, is in the process of pitching a reality TV show to various networks called “Romancing Rachel.” What a tramp!
