Tonight’s Kansas at Texas game is the only scheduled matchup between these two Big 12 powers this season and was a game that was circled on everyone’s calendar with both schools sitting at No. 1 in the country at one point this year.

And while the Jayhawks are back at No. 1, the Horns haven’t been the same since being anointed the nation’s top team. In fact, UT lost the same day it moved to No. 1 for the first time in school history and in fact has lost four of six games since then.

Kansas is a 1.5-point betting favorite on WagerWeb.com’s NCAA basketball odds.

KU is in total control of the Big 12 with a three-game lead and has won eight games in a row since that lone loss of the year, at Tennessee. KU has won its Big 12 games by an average of 13.1 points per game and lead the Big 12 in field-goal percentage (49.3), three-point field-goal percentage (41.0), field-goal percentage defense (36.6), assists (18.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4). The Jayhawks have won five of their last six against the Longhorns, but three of the past five have been decided by four points or less. And KU is 0-3 in Austin under Coach Bill Self.

Kansas’ had 21 to lead the Jayhawks to an 83-73 win last year in the lone meeting and is averaging 15.6 points this season to lead the team.

Texas is one of the worst free-throw shooting teams in the country and made just 10 of its 27 foul shots, including 4 of 11 in the second half, in Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma. And the Horns have covered just once in their past 10 games overall.

The Horns will be looking for its first victory against the AP’s top-ranked team in school history. Since the AP began its poll in 1949, UT has faced the AP No. 1 team six times and dropped all six. UT is 14-2 on ESPN’s “Big Monday” home games, with nine of those wins against ranked teams. Texas currently has a six-game winning streak in home games against AP Top 5 teams.
