Tonight is the Charlotte Bobcats’ first game since Michael Jordan agreed to buy the team, but good luck getting a win in his first game as owner (it won’t be made official for a few weeks, technically) because visiting Dallas in on a roll with seven wins in a row.

That said, Charlotte has opened as a 2-point betting favorite on WagerWeb.com’s NBA odds.

Thanks to Dirk Nowitzki’s 36 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, the Mavs won No. 7 straight 108-100 over New Orleans on Sunday. They now are only a half game out of second place in the Western Conference. Caron Butler returned to the lineup Sunday after missing two games when medication gave him a bad reaction. He had 19 points. Dallas is 7-1 since getting Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson from Washington before the trade deadline. And point guard Jason Kidd has now scored in double digits for a season-high eight consecutive games. The most he had strung together previously was five.

With Sunday’s game getting a late start, the Mavs didn’t even land in Charlotte until around 4 a.m. local time. Charlotte has never beaten Dallas (the only team in the NBA the Bobcats are winless against) but with tipoff just 19 hours after the Mavs-Hornets game, the Bobcats certainly will have a huge advantage. The Bobcats haven’t played since Friday after wrapping up a four-game road trip.

Charlotte is led by Gerald Wallace, who is averaging 18.9 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. He’s averaged 23 points the last three games. The Bobcats still are short on centers as Nazr Mohammed (back spasms) has missed the last three games and Tyson Chandler (left ankle) the last five.

These two teams met Dec. 12, with Nowitzki hit a game-winning jumper in the final seconds to give the Mavs the 98-97 victory. That improved Dallas to 11-0 all-time in the series.
