Sunday’s 17-6 loss to the Jets officially meant it was time for the to look toward 2010, and that more than likely means ’s days with the team may be numbered.

Delhomme has a fractured finger on his right (throwing) hand, and that might be the only excuse the Panthers need to bench a guy with 8 TD passes, 18 picks and a new $42.5 million contract. Delhomme’s 59.4 passer rating ranks 31st in the NFL.

Coach John Fox would not commit to starting Delhomme in Week 13 at his Monday press conference. Look for Matt Moore or A.J. Feeley to get the nod against Tampa Bay – bet on Panthers-Bucs at WagerWeb.com.

Delhomme completed just 14-of-34 passes for 130 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions in the Panthers’ loss to New York as they dropped to 4-7. Fox said Delhomme would be “hard-pressed” to take snaps at practice on Wednesday.

“We’ve got to look hard at who’s out there, what we’re doing and get better,” Fox told reporters about whether Delhomme would start if healthy enough. “I think we’ll look at the whole offense. At the end of the day, we weren’t productive enough to win.”

That could leave Moore as Carolina’s starter for the first time since late in the 2007 season when Delhomme was recovering from elbow surgery.

Moore, who went undrafted out of Oregon State, played in nine games as a rookie with three starts, throwing three touchdowns and five interceptions. He didn’t appear in a game last season and has played in only one game this year, throwing a single incomplete pass against Arizona after Delhomme was shaken up.

The Panthers are a veteran team that could be on the verge of quitting – thus they might be a great team to bet against the rest of the season. Even without Delhomme, they will be favored at Tampa Bay, which has been playing much better of late.

Look for a new coach/GM type in Carolina next season (Bill Cowher?) as well as for the Panthers to grab a QB with their first pick in the 2010 draft.
