That Matt Cassel trade and signing to a long-term contract is looking very questionable for the Chiefs right now. Cassel is looking like he was better than he really was when surrounded by the offensive stars he had in New England last year when he threw for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns for the 11-5 Patriots.
This season, without much of a receiving corps (or running attack, for that matter) around him, Cassel has thrown nine interceptions in his 11 starts and been sacked an AFC-high 37 times for the Chiefs. He was benched in the third quarter of a blowout home loss to Denver last week after a 10-of-29 start. He threw for only 89 yards and was intercepted twice. Cassel has yet to throw for 300 yards in a game this season and three times has been held under 100.
He failed to throw a scoring pass last Sunday and has a total of 13 on the season thus far with eight of those TD tosses coming in the 4th quarter (most of any QB in football). Kansas City is one of four teams without a first quarter touchdown pass in 2009.
The Bills lost 19-13 to the Jets in Toronto last Thursday and have now lost four of their last five games overall. Buffalo is averaging 12.4 points per game in eight losses this season (25.0 ppg in four victories).
Buffalo has allowed a 100-yard rusher eight times in 2009 — most of any team in football. The Bills are allowing an average of 172.1 rush yards per game this season — highest in the league.
These teams have split their last six meetings, with Buffalo winning 54-31 in Week 12 last year, and the Bills have a 22-17-1 overall series edge, including the playoffs.
