It’s the first game of the post-Dick Jauron era for the Bills, and interim Buffalo coach Perry Fewell wasted no time in making a key decision: No. 2 QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is back as the starter and Trent Edwards is back on the bench.
Fitzpatrick is 1-1 in two starts and also rallied the Bills to a 16-13 overtime win over the New York Jets on Oct. 18, after Edwards was knocked out of the game. Fitzpatrick has completed just 49.4 percent of his passes. He has two TD strikes, four interceptions and a passer rating of 49.8. Edwards has a completion percentage of 60.2 percent with six TDs and seven interceptions. His passer rating is 74.1. But Fitzpatrick has won two games and Edwards none and also has shown a bit more willingness to throw downfield. Terrell Owens, for one, said he thought Fitzpatrick should have kept the job even when Edwards, who has never passed for 300 yards in 30 starts, was healthy.
Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew needs two TDs rushing to tie Fred Taylor’s single-season franchise record of 14 set in 1998. He is fourth in the league with 860 rushing yards, first with 12 touchdowns and fourth in receptions among running backs with 32.
The Bills have allowed 101 fourth-quarter points in 2009 — most of any team in the league. Jacksonville is 5-0 when scoring more than 17 points in 2009 and has won three in a row at home.
These teams are meeting for fourth consecutive year, with Buffalo winning two of last three.
